- Now that you've heard the Bruce story, think of one really interesting (sad, serious, funny, inspiring, etc.) personal (MUST have happened to you) story and share with your group:
- Where did it take place?
- When did it take place?
- Who was involved?
- What happened?
- Activity--What Makes A Good Story
- 5 Elements of Good Storytelling--Paul Jarvis
- Simple
- Easy to understand.
- Often told in a language that matches the way the intended audience communicates.
- Easier to grasp and remember.
- Emotional
- Usually contain one or more: humor, challenge (pain), joy
- Truthful
- It does not need to be scientifically proven.
- Storyteller believes in what he/she is sharing and seems honest.
- Audience believes in what is being shared.
- Real
- Usually first-hand experiences. (You should be involved IN the story.)
- It is clear how that story directly relates to and/or impacts the storyteller.
- Valid
- Works for any audience--one to one-million listeners.
- It's not important how many people hear the story; it matters that someone, somewhere is listening to it.
